Le Commandant Charcot, Ponant's Polar Class 2 hybrid-electric LNG vessel, is the first and only luxury passenger ship to have reached the Geographic North Pole, capable of breaking through 8.5 feet of solid sea ice in waters no other vessel of its kind can follow. North Pole expeditions depart from Longyearbyen, Svalbard, in alliance with The Explorers Club - with opportunities for Zodiac landings, kayaking, and encounters with Inuit communities along the ice. On its historic first voyage to the North Pole of Inaccessibility, more than 620 miles from any landmass, 20 scientists conducted climate fieldwork aboard while others watched from the observation deck with champagne in hand.
