AquaPraça: A Floating Plaza for Climate and Culture

AquaPraça, designed by Carlo Ratti Associati and Höweler + Yoon, is a floating public plaza debuting at the 2025 Venice Biennale before moving to Belém for COP30.

Spanning 400 square meters, the structure adapts to changing water levels using Archimedes’ principle, allowing visitors to experience sea-level rise at eye level. Built with submersible engineering, it hosts exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events for up to 150 people. Materials and design reflect maritime context, emphasizing equilibrium between built and natural environments.

After COP30, AquaPraça will remain as a permanent landmark in Belém, serving as a hub for cultural exchange and climate dialogue. Supported by international partners, the project highlights architecture’s role in addressing ecological challenges while creating meaningful civic space.

AquaPraça is both a functional venue and a lasting symbol of adaptability, designed to connect communities to the realities of a changing planet.
