THE BACK PORCH

There is a particular sort of timelessness found at The Back Porch Seafood & Oyster House. Established in 1974 within a modest A-frame on the Destin shore, it has grown into a coastal landmark without ever losing its unpretentious spirit. It is a place where the rhythm of the Gulf of Mexico dictates the pace of the afternoon, and the air is perpetually seasoned with salt and the scent of charcoal-grilled seafood.

The Back Porch is credited with pioneering the Amberjack sandwich—now a staple of Florida’s Panhandle—but its true specialty remains the daily harvest from the Gulf. Whether it is a dozen raw Apalachicola oysters or the signature Grouper Destin, the focus is on the clarity of flavor that only comes from seafood delivered each morning. It is an invitation to slow down, to watch the emerald waters from the shade of the porch, and to participate in a tradition that has defined the Destin experience for over half a century.
