Largest Private Superyacht: Inside the Record-Holding Azzam

The title of the largest private superyacht in the world belongs to Azzam. Built by German shipyard Lürssen and launched in 2013, this yacht measures 180.6 meters (592 feet) in length, making it the longest private yacht ever constructed.

Commissioned by a private Middle Eastern owner, Azzam was developed under the direction of Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi. The design features an exterior by Nauta Yachts and interiors by Christophe Leoni, styled in a classic Empire theme.

Beyond its size, Azzam stands out for its engineering. The yacht is powered by two gas turbines and two diesel engines, delivering a top speed of over 30 knots. Its shallow draft allows for navigation in coastal and shallow waters—a rare capability for vessels in this class.

Inside, Azzam offers accommodation for up to 36 guests and 80 crew. Highlights include a 29-meter salon, high ceilings, gold accents, and a range of luxury amenities such as a retractable pool cover, spa, cinema, gym, and multiple tenders.

As the largest private superyacht currently in operation, Azzam remains privately owned and is not available for charter. Despite its scale, the yacht’s activities and itineraries are kept largely out of public view, maintaining an air of discretion that matches its status.
