Iceberg-making submarine that could re-freeze the Arctic

While the world is combating global warming, a team of Indonesian designers came up with the idea to re-freeze the Arctic. An Iceberg- making submarine prototype has been presented as a new approach to transform the seawater into ice fields that will keep the planet cooler and help achieve the balance of the global climate.

Wondering how it works?

  • The vessel submerges to collect seawater in its central hexagonal well-like tank.
  • Reverse osmosis would begin to filter some of the salt from the water that would allow to speed up the process.
  • Turbines would then be used to pump the tank with cold air and accelerate the freezing procedure.
  • In a month, the water should freeze and the vessel submerges again to release the “ice baby” and refill with more seawater to restart the process.
