Set in the 1920s, "Vindication Swim" follows Mercedes Gleitze, a young swimmer of German descent from Brighton, who dreams of becoming the first British woman to swim across the English Channel. However, she faces relentless snobbery, sexism, and xenophobia at every turn. After achieving her goal, her arrogant rival, Edith Gade, falsely claims to have matched her feat. To defend her record, Mercedes must swim the Channel again, this time in dangerously harsh weather conditions.
