Hidden beneath a grassy rooftop, the Blue Insight Cave Space by 3andwich Design and He Wei Studio is a masterstroke of ecological architecture, tucked into the rugged coastline of Xiapu, Ningde, China.

Drawing inspiration from the region’s reefs and sea caves, its irregular, non–right-angled contours echo the natural rock formations dotted along the East China Sea. Partially buried underground, the structure remains discreet—embracing principles of “precipitousness, concealment, and integration”—while its cave-like interior opens to sweeping ocean views. Naturally-lit ventilation skylights pierce the green roof—evoking organic sea-life geometries—creating a dynamic interplay of light and stone within the gallery and salon spaces.

As a sustainable cultural hub, this 460 m² visitor center ingeniously balances environmental sensitivity, thermal regulation, and immersive spatial drama—offering a serene sanctuary that fosters deep connection with landscape and sea.
