AERIAL TOWER WITH 99 FLOATING ISLANDS

Sou Fujimoto Architects tower, which will reach a height of 268 meters, will be supported by 99 pillar-like support beams, or "islands," that will carry the tower's upper horizontal frame. From afar, the new tower will appear to be a single entity, a monolithic structure, gradually revealing itself as a collection of columnar pillars that separate as you get closer. The uppermost plane of the new tower serves as an observation platform, as well as a three-dimensional exhibition area with space for a restaurant and cafe. A centralized core bolsters the tower, which is then stabilized by a steel truss system and Kevlar tension cables situated around the outer border of the tower's base, in addition to the minimum structural support provided by the pillars for the spherical upper deck.
