Polimeropolis reimagines the Great Pacific Garbage Patch as a cradle of sustainability, transforming oceanic plastic pollution into the building blocks of an entirely self-sustaining floating city. Designed by Estudio Focaccia Prieto, the concept introduces a ringed archipelago built from recycled plastic it collects itself—purifying the ocean, generating clean energy, and producing fresh water and food. With mixed-use zones housing 4,000 residents each, these habitable rings enclose pristine lagoons and incorporate phytoremediation to restrict microplastic flow. Floating factories crush and mold waste into modular construction units, while tidal power and reverse osmosis support off-grid living. A new ecosystem emerges—where circular economies, marine biodiversity, and conscious living intersect on the open sea. More than a solution, Polimeropolis is a radical new vision for urban life on a warming planet.
