IRIS VAN HERPEN CREATES HAUTE COUTURE DRESS FROM OCEAN PLASTIC

Fashion designer Iris Van Herpen has unveiled a stunning couture dress made completely of ocean plastic. The dress is truly breathtaking, offering out-of-this-world design that’s never been seen. While it’s definitely high fashion, it comes as a surprise to most when they learn it’s made from ocean plastic. The dress was designed with ocean plastic fabric made by Parley for the Oceans. Then, the pieces were strategically cut to create a tessellated and translucent dress. The dress itself was featured in Van Herpen’s Roots of Rebirth Spring/Summer 2021 collection. Part of the collection’s theme was the intricacy of fungi, honing in on an element of nature. The Ocean Plastic fabric is comprised of marine waste and cultivated from the approximately 8 million tons of waste found in the oceans every year.
